CHURCH MUSIC Of Today ... One Big Compromise!

The church music today (for the most part) is a far cry from what it was like in the 50's (the so-called "age of innocence"). The majority of church music today is love-making music, which appeals to the flesh, not the heart. It's mostly and basically secular music with a drum beat with few but repetitive gospel words. Think of it this way, would Jesus be swaying and hip jiving? I don't think so .......... I know 100s and 100s of old hymns and I dare say there is not one old hymn book that has one song that leaves you scratching your head wondering if Jesus would approve.

Preachers, it's you who should "set the tone" ... do NOT compromise by letting your music directors "go with the flow", or mimic something seen on TV ... it's "feel good" music. The old hymns, on the other hand, give a REAL message ... so many of them are sermons, leaving one desiring God more, fearing God more ... and a desire to win lost souls to Christ ... a certain style of music that leaves one more humbled and with tears.

My father says he believes J. Frank Norris would have echoed every word I just said. ~ Gail Hawkins
